UNICEF’S response to COVID-19 in Eastern and Southern Africa
Lessons from a regional real-time assessment
Since the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, UNICEF country offices in Eastern and Southern Africa have worked closely with national governments, civil society and private sector partners, United Nations country teams, non-governmental organizations and donors to reduce transmission and mitigate the impacts of the virus.
In October 2020, the UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office commissioned a Real-Time Assessment (RTA) of UNICEF’s response to COVID-19 across the Eastern and Southern Africa region. This exercise was conceptualised in two phases: the first phase took place from October 2020 to January 2021, while Phase II started in April and ended in December 2021.
