Phase II of the RTA of UNICEF’S Response to COVID-19 in Eastern and Southern Africa
Lessons from a regional real-time assessment
In April 2021, UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) initiated phase 2 of its Real-Time Assessment (RTA) of UNICEF’s response to COVID-19 across the Eastern and Southern Africa region.
The second phase of this exercise aimed to provide more in-depth analysis and emerging best practices and lessons through qualitative data gathered from four case study countries (Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Africa and South Sudan).
The assessment focused on three thematic areas
COVID-19 vaccine supply and rollout
COVID-19 vaccine demand promotion
Safe return to school of children
Highlights
Phase 2 of the RTA covered UNICEF’s response to COVID-19 from April 2021 (after the end of phase 1) until December 2021.
The assessment was informed by qualitative data collected from four case study countries (Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Africa and South Sudan) and produced three thematic reports on the areas of COVID-19 vaccine supply and rollout; COVID-19 vaccine demand promotion; and education, specifically the safe return to school.
All three reports can be accessed through the drop-down listing on this page.
