Cairo, 14 October 2023 – Amid the escalating crisis in Gaza, which has led to thousands of children being killed and injured, UNICEF is acting to swiftly procure and distribute lifesaving supplies through Egypt.
“Today, UNICEF is sending trucks filled with water, mobile latrines, and dignity kits to address the immediate humanitarian needs of 150,000 people. Our immediate pipeline includes additional essentials like medicines, water, tents, blankets, hygiene kits, and more. These supplies are on their way and are being handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, our partner on the ground, to expand our support in Gaza,” stated Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt.
In parallel with these efforts, UNICEF is working with the government of Egypt to support critical services for children in the North Sinai Governorate.
UNICEF calls for an immediate humanitarian pause and safe access to scale up and sustain lifesaving services for children. A child is a child. Children everywhere must be protected at all times and must never come under attack.
