UNICEF launches FunDoo
The digital life coach for young migrants and refugees in Italy
FunDoo – UNICEF’s digital “life coach” that helps adolescents and young migrants become job-ready and future-ready – is now available in Italy, the 17th country to receive the app.
Through gamified, bite-sized and conversational learning modules, FunDoo Italy teaches users skills like how to create a CV or handle a job interview – and even how to improve their health skills, critical thinking, social-emotional learning, financial literacy, and awareness of climate change. The activities are short, guided tasks combining quizzes, giveaways, practical examples and advice. Users can learn at their own pace: accessing anytime, pausing, and resuming where they left off. They receive certificates, badges and scores to help motivate them.
The result is a simple, engaging, and personalized learning experience designed to fit the needs of those exploring local opportunities and taking their first steps toward autonomy. Currently available in Italy in Arabic, Bengali, French, English, Italian and Urdu, it is available on UNICEF’s free, anonymous platform U-Report On The Move – accessible via WhatsApp, Telegram, and Messenger.
Before its official launch, the platform was tested by a group of girls and boys from Albania, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria, and Ukraine, all members of the U-Report On The Move Steering Group. Their comments and suggestions played a crucial role in improving content, language, and features, making the experience more accessible and responsive to user needs.
“It’s helpful because it helps you prepare better, even with practical tips like practicing in front of the mirror,” says user Hannah. Maria appreciates the timing and pace of the platform: “You can read calmly, reflect before answering, and it’s not too long – the timing is just right.”
FunDoo in Italy is designed especially for unaccompanied and separated children and young migrants and refugees. However, it is also a valuable resource for any young person preparing to transition into the workplace.
Adolescents and young people registered on the platform can access it by typing “FunDoo” within the U-Report On The Move chat.
