John Agbor assumes duty as UNICEF Representative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

 KINSHASA, 25 APRIL 2025 – John Agbor, the new UNICEF Representative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), presented yesterday his credentials at the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“It is an honour to present my credentials to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gracia Yamba Kazadi and I look forward to working very closely with the government and partners in serving the children of the DRC” Agbor said. 

In his role as Representative, Agbor will provide strategic leadership as the Country Office implements the Government of DRC-UNICEF Programme of Cooperation 2025-2029.

Agbor, a national of Cameroon, brings more than 30 years of humanitarian and international development experience to the post.

After joining UNICEF in 2004 in the DRC, Agbor went on to serve in child health roles in duty stations including Liberia, Somalia, Nigeria and Pakistan. He was UNICEF Representative in Burkina Faso from 2023 to 2025 and UNICEF Representative in Burundi from 2020 to 2023. Before joining UNICEF, Agbor worked for the World Health Organization and Médecins Sans Frontières.

Agbor holds a Doctorate degree in Medicine from the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon, a Master's degree in Public Health from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, and a diploma in Public Health, Health and Development from Henri Poincaré University in Nancy, France. He is fluent in French and English.
