Online Course Version of Superstar Teacher Toolbox on Digital Pedagogy Released

An adaptation of the existing Superstar Teacher Toolbox on Digital Pedagogy Tool, the course is structured into bite-sized, self-paced modules.

UNICEF’s Global Learning Innovation Hub has unveiled the Superstar Teacher Toolbox Digital Pedagogy Tool online course on the Learning Passport Global Library platform, making it accessible to teachers worldwide. 

This online course is an adaptation of the existing Superstar Teacher Toolbox on Digital Pedagogy Tool, which provides practical tips on how to apply digital pedagogy principles in teaching. The online course is structured into bite-sized, self-paced modules designed to help educators effectively integrate digital tools into their teaching practices. Upon completing the self-paced course, estimated to take four hours in total, participants receive a certificate of completion.

Strengthening Digital Teaching Capacity 

The Digital Pedagogy online course is designed for primary and secondary school teachers around the world. studies, and structured school- and district-level collaboration, so teachers learn with and from their peers.

In addition to covering the basics of digital pedagogy, the course helps teachers tackle key classroom challenges. It guides them on how to integrate technology into lesson planning and assessment. It also provides strategies for bridging learning gaps caused by limited teaching resources and gender disparities. The course emphasizes ensuring online safety and protecting students in digital environments. Finally, it shows teachers how to use digital tools to better understand and support students’ learning needs.

Accessible, responsive, and cross-platform 

Hosted on the Learning Passport platform, the course is available globally and optimized for computers, tablets, and mobile phones. Teachers only need a digital device and an internet connection to participate. 

By offering a responsive, web-based experience, the course enables educators to access content, explore real-world examples, and complete interactive learning activities. Teachers can access the course for free by registering online and taking the self-paced modules which take about four hours to complete. Teachers who finish the course receive a certificate recognizing their completion of the course on digital pedagogy. 

The course content is available as open license content, enabling countries to access and upload it to their own platforms for broader use, including translation. 

Part of a Broader Innovation Effort 

The online course adaptation of the contents of the Superstar Teacher Toolbox is an initiative of UNICEF’s Global Learning Innovation Hub, and is developed with the support of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Finnish Centre of Expertise in Education and Development (FinCEED). It forms part of UNICEF’s broader effort to bridge the digital divide, empower educators, and improve student learning outcomes worldwide. 

Coming Next 

Underway is the online course adaptation of the Superstar Teacher Toolbox Mobile Messaging for Learning Tool. This upcoming online resource will guide teachers on leveraging messaging applications to reach learners and support continuity of learning, especially during school closures, crises, and emergencies.   

UNICEF is developing additional tools for the Superstar Teacher Toolbox covering pedagogical approaches for shared devices, inclusive digital learning, understanding Artificial Intelligence and how AI can be used to support teachers, etc. All these new topics will also be adapted into online courses.
