Big ideas, brave voices, and meaningful dialogue
Creating space for young people to be heard
UNICEF Belize was pleased to visit Sadie Vernon Technical High School, engaging directly with students and educators and placing young people at the center of meaningful dialogue about their education, aspirations, and future.
During the visit, UNICEF Representative for Belize, Sajid Ali, met with students to listen to their lived experiences, ideas, and hopes for the future. These conversations offered valuable insight into what matters most to young people and the challenges and opportunities shaping their lives. The visit also provided an opportunity to hear from teachers about the realities influencing students’ learning and development.
Listening to children and young people is a core principle of UNICEF’s work. When adolescents are heard and meaningfully engaged, their perspectives help inform better decisions, stronger programmes, and solutions that truly respond to their needs. Creating space for young voices not only validates their experience but empowers them to shape the future they want to see.
UNICEF extends its appreciation to the students of Sadie Vernon Technical High School for sharing their perspectives and to the dedicated teachers who nurture, guide, and inspire Belize’s young people every day. Together, we continue working toward a future where every child is heard, respected, and able to thrive.
