We dedicate this month to all mothers!

Being a mother is not easy: taking care of children, a thousand and one household chores, work, a desire to do everything perfectly, and all this when there are only 24 hours a day! It is natural that in this situation, fatigue and exhaustion become inevitable, while excitement and enthusiasm become luxuries. Many mothers around the world experience this every day. That is until they stop and decide to change: change the situation, change themselves, change something! 

There is a simple truth: Only a happy parent can raise a happy child.

Together, we will take 30 simple steps to help care for yourself. We know you’re busy, so let’s get started!

Step 1

Let’s start with self-knowledge. Stop, close your eyes, and think about what you want to do. What will make you happy? In a notebook, jot down what you would like to do for yourself today, tomorrow, and in the coming week.

Step 2

Let’s think about where you spend most of the day. What can you change to make your surroundings more pleasant? Think about simple things. For example, get yourself some fresh flowers; don’t underestimate the simple joy and power of bringing color and life into your space.

Step 3

Let’s go to the bookstore or library today! Look for and find the book you’d like to read. We will offer some suggestions in the comments; you can share yours!

Step 4

Do you wish you could stay in bed just a little longer? Let’s do it either today or tomorrow! For example, have a coffee, tea, or breakfast in bed or lie down and forget about everything—a few minutes just to yourself. This is your moment, your time, and everything else can wait.

Step 5

“O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao!”

Let’s play our favorite songs and dance non-stop! It’s the best way to release our happy hormones–our endorphins–and to get some exercise and burn some calories!

Don’t enjoy dancing? Why don’t you sing? Perhaps karaoke?

Step 6

Here’s a 10-minute exercise you can do right now or at night before bed.

  1. Sit comfortably, feet on the floor. Put your hands on your knees, close your eyes, and feel the calm taking over.
  2. Mind, body, and soul. What are you thinking about right now? Are your thoughts positive or negative? How do you feel? Happy or not really? What do you feel? Does anything hurt? Is anything bothering you?
  3. Focus on your breathing. Listen to yourself inhaling and exhaling. You can place your hands on your stomach and feel it rise and fall with each breath. Tell yourself: “I am OK, no matter what. I am OK fine.” Continue breathing deeply and monitor your breathing for a while.
  4. Return to your starting point. How are you feeling now? Listen to the sounds in the room.
  5. Observation: Did this exercise help you? Open your eyes when you’re ready.

Step 7

Today is the day to socialize. Finally!

This morning, make an appointment with your friends or loved ones to spend the evening together.

Enjoy yourself and have a good time!

Step 8

Some fresh air and beautiful nature—now that’s all you need to feel better!

Today’s the day you should enjoy nature’s beauty. Spend time in nature: in the forest, in the park, by the river, wherever possible and wherever you’ll feel most comfortable.

Step 9

t’s digital detox day! This evening, forget that you have a phone, TV, or computer.

Instead, do something you’ll really enjoy. Remember, you have a special page in your notebook.

Step 10

We can’t forget about taking care of your body. Either prepare a face mask with natural products at home or take a hot bath/put your feet in a bath with aromatic infusions.

Step 11

Today, write five things you love about yourself on a fresh page in your notebook. It is time to be proud of your achievements, peculiarities, abilities, and qualities. Don’t you have five reasons to be proud? Think harder! We all know well that there isn’t anyone quite like you. You can do it!

Step 12

Cut some lemons, strawberries, and mint, and place them in a large jug with water. Drink this infused water, which will surely brighten your spirits throughout the day.

Don’t like the ingredients? Replace them and create a version that’s right for you!

Step 13

Slow and steady movements, like yoga and walking, and deep breathing, increase blood flow and help our muscles. Remember, we want healthy bodies and healthy minds—it’s a two-for-one deal!

Do some relaxing yoga or take a walk today to calm your mind and body. There’s a great link to a guided relaxing yoga session in the comments.

Step 14

Do a little exercise before going to bed. Close your eyes and mentally transport to a happy, calm, and safe place. It can be somewhere you’ve been before or somewhere you’d really like to go. Visualize that place in your mind. What do you see and hear? What tastes or smells are associated with that place? What do you feel? Spend some time there. When you feel relaxed, open your eyes. Now you can go to sleep comfortably. Good night!

Step 15

When was the last time you watched a great movie you enjoyed from start to finish? Well, today is the day.

Watch your favorite movie again or play a movie you’ve wanted to see for a long time but haven't had the time. Comment with a list of your favorite flicks!

How's it going? Thank you for being with us for the past two weeks. We are halfway there. Remember that all mothers deserve all the good things, especially the small joys in life!

Step 16

Do you know how useful just twenty minutes of physical activity a day is for your metabolism and how much energy it will give you?

Well, let's try.

Maybe 20 jump rope or 20 squats with feet shoulder width apart?

Step 17

Let's briefly forget your worries about the past and your anxieties about the future. Let's focus instead on the present. 

Sit straight in a chair, your feet on the ground, and your knees aligned with your shoulders. Breathe slowly and deeply and follow the following instructions:

  • Identify five objects you can see

  • Touch and feel four objects in your reach

  • Identify three sounds you hear

  • Identify two scents you can smell

  • Identify something you taste

Step 18

Today is a day of colors.

Let's draw what our hearts desire today. It's OK if you don't know how to draw well; the important thing is to enjoy the process!

You can also get yourself a coloring book and some colored pencils and spend time coloring a picture or two that you like. It may help calm your nerves.

Step 19

Time to eat healthily! We will get our dose of vitamins by eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

After eating meals full of fruits and vegetables, you will feel lighter and have more energy.

Step 20

Arrange your wardrobe or any of the shelves or drawers at your home. Maybe there is a drawer you wanted to tidy up for a long time but never got to. Get rid of at least one unnecessary thing while arranging.

Remember, we can feel better when things around us are in order.

Step 21

Are you not getting your work done? Is there not enough time? Perhaps it's time to ask for some support. Asking for help is not only an essential part of self-care but also of self-respect. Let's learn to ask for help once in a while!

Who can you turn to for help? Your husband, your mother or father, your sister or brother, your girlfriend, your boss, your neighbor, etc.

If it's impossible to get someone's support right now, consider prioritizing your tasks. It's OK to postpone some tasks!

Here's a reminder that you have boundaries and that you don't have to apologize:

  • having emotions and expressing them;

  • refusing or saying "no";

  • taking the time you need;

  • not looking or feeling great today

Step22

Today is the day to clean your phone. Get rid of all those applications you don't use, and unfollow all those pages that disturb or annoy you. Only follow pages that inspire you, and keep just those apps you actually need.

Step 23

Talk to someone close to you, someone with whom you've wanted to talk for a while but never got around to it. If it is impossible to speak in person, you can call, send a message, or write a letter.

Step 24

Regularly remind yourself that you are awesome! You have so many redeemable traits, and you can write at least five of them in your notebook.

Great! Now go ahead and enjoy a nice pastry, bar of chocolate, or bowl of ice cream without feeling an ounce of guilt!

By the way, eating snacks like bananas, raspberries, and strawberries can increase dopamine levels, which can positively impact your mood!

Step 25

Thoughts that you should never focus on:

  • All people should love and accept me;

  • I have to have control over everything;

  • I have to do everything perfectly; shortcomings are unacceptable;

  • I will mess things up;

  • I shouldn't express my emotions; there is no benefit in doing so;

Instead, accept yourself as you are. Many things are beyond your control; controlling and changing everything is impossible. Focus on what you can change.

Step 26

Let's dream! Start a new section in your notebook. Answer the following questions on the page:

  • Which five places in Armenia would you like to visit?

  • Which five countries would you like to visit?

Start planning that trip (even if only mentally). When can you go? What will you need there?

Step 27

Being able to notice and appreciate what we have helps us feel content and gives us hope in difficult times.

Think of five things for which you are thankful. If you'd like, you can share them in the comments: the sun, your parents, delicious food, beautiful nature, friends, a cup of delicious coffee or tea, work.

Be happy with yourself, even if you think you don't look good, if you haven't managed to get anything done today, or if you couldn't dedicate time to our self-care challenge.

You are an amazing woman and a great mother. You don't have to be perfect. Just try to be more aware of your thoughts and emotions.

Step 28

When was the last time you gave yourself a gift? Well, today's the day!

Get yourself a gift, even a small one, to celebrate your achievements. It can be a reusable water bottle, a book, a scarf, some jewelry, a dress, your favorite dish, a cocktail, or just a much-needed 15 minutes of rest.

You deserve it! Reward yourself!

Step 29

"Life is a party. Dress for it," UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn once said.

Plan an unforgettable evening, either at home or out, with people close to you. The important part is that you feel good and are in good company! Perhaps you can put on that new dress!

Consider having a theme for your get-together, like a 90s or black and white party! Need ideas? Google can help!

Step 30

If you do anything for 40 days and enjoy the results, it becomes a habit.
