Life Skills Toolkit for school and youth clubs in Uganda
A toolkit for use in Uganda's school and out-of-school clubs adapted from the Adolescent Kit for Expression and Innovation, and other curricula
Highlights
This Life Skills Toolkit for use in Uganda's school and out-of-school clubs was developed by the Government of Uganda's Ministry of Education and Sport with support from UNICEF, in collaboration with the nongovernmental organizations Aflatoun International and the Private Educational Development Network to strengthen and systematize skill-based learning for adolescents and youth throughout the country's schools and educational programmes.
The Toolkit's Introduction booklet integrate guidance and tools from the Adolescent Kit for Expression and Innovation together with foundational guidance and standards created by the Uganda Ministry of Education. It includes a framework of the competencies that adolescent participants learn and practice through the Toolkit's activities, and other helpful guidance and resources for teachers and facilitators who supervise and lead student and youth clubs.
Modules 1, 3, 6 and 7 of the Toolkit, adapted from the Adolescent Kit's activities and energizers and its "four phases" approach, create a scaffolded pathway for students and participants to build supportive peer connections with other club members, explore and gain confidence in expressing their ideas creatively, and plan and carry out community-based initiatives.
Modules 2, 4 and 5 of the Toolkit integrates guidance and lessons developed by the Government of Uganda and Aflatoun international, opening opportunities for students to learn about essential life skills topics such as health and hygiene, human rights and violence prevention, personal goal-setting and financial planning.
