Community-based psychosocial support and peer-to-peer connections for vulnerable adolescents
In 2025, UNICEF Iran is launching the implementation of the Adolescent Kit for Expression and Innovation as part of a community-based psychosocial support programme for adolescents and young people affected by the recent regional conflict. In close partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOHME), Iran University of Medical Sciences, the Tehran Psychiatric Institute, and the Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ), UNICEF is training community health workers and practitioners from local NGOs to facilitate adolescent circles in 10 provinces across the country. Through these circles, adolescents will take part in a structured series of arts-based, recreational, and adolescent-centred activities adapted from the Adolescent Kit. These activities are designed to strengthen psychosocial wellbeing, promote emotional resilience, build healthy life skills, and create safe spaces for adolescents to develop positive, supportive peer relationships.
UNICEF Iran, which translated the Adolescent Kit into Farsi, aims to gradually integrate the programme into the national Adolescent Wellbeing and Empowerment Programme, and expand its use within national systems — including the Ministry of Education for drug use prevention and risk-reduction efforts. The programme will also support other marginalized groups across Iran, including Afghan refugee adolescents and their families.
