Mauritania faces frequent climatic shocks and chronic vulnerabilities, compounded by a protracted refugee crisis, recurrent cycles of food insecurity and acute malnutrition. In this context, UNICEF implements an integrated humanitarian-development nexus approach, targeting over 985,000 at-risk people in the regions of Guidimakha, Assaba and Hodh Chargui.

Furthermore, UNICEF works closely with the World Food Programme (WFP) in 26 municipalities of convergence and 52 community sites within these three regions, to provide a comprehensive package of interventions to strengthen the resilience of systems, communities and individuals.
