HA NOI, April 25, 2025 – The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), in partnership with UN Viet Nam and UNICEF, has delivered 43 vaccine refrigerators to the Yen Bai Department of Health as part of the support for commune health centers heavily affected by Typhoon No. 3 – Yagi, aiming to restore and resume immunization activities.
The HBC-80 vaccine refrigerators will be delivered to 43 communes in Yen Bai province that were severely affected by Super Typhoon No. 3 – Yagi. These refrigerators are capable of maintaining the required temperature range of +2˚C to +8˚C for the majority of vaccines managed under the Expanded Immunization Programme. With a storage capacity of 61 liters, each refrigerator can store sufficient vaccine doses for routine vaccinations in the communes.
“Super Typhoon No. 3 – Yagi caused significant damage to the health system in Yen Bai province, destroying essential equipment such as the cold chain system for vaccine storage,” said Maharajan Muthu, Chief of Child Survival and Development at UNICEF Viet Nam. “UNICEF is pleased to join hands with UN Viet Nam and DFAT to support the health system in Yen Bai in its recovery and reconstruction efforts by providing 43 specialized vaccine refrigerators. This will help ensure the quality and continuity of the Expanded Immunization Programme in the province.”
Through the combined efforts of all partners, it is hoped that Yen Bai’s health system will be able to restore the delivery of quality services to its people and children, particularly in immunization.
