On May 31, 2023, the video of the winning theme of the #HablemosDeFrente contest was presented, organized by UNICEF Venezuela as an effort to raise awareness about how harmful violence against girls, adolescents, and women is.

The musical theme "It's not Normal and it's not Ok", composed and performed by Esther Hernández, is a piece that speaks to girls, adolescents, and women in their own language to question the social conventions that prevent them from fighting against gender violence.

The launch of the video of the winning theme was carried out within the framework of a discussion on gender violence, in which Marta Rodríguez, a specialist in Child Protection from UNICEF Venezuela, and Daniela Hinojosa, director of the NGO Tinta Violeta, participated. The event, held at Cines Unidos de Los Dos Caminos, in Caracas, was moderated by the urban music performer Afreeka.

About the contest

The #HablemosDeFrente contest was aimed at Venezuelan adolescents and young people between the ages of 15 and 24 in order to make a rap or freestyle with a positive message that would invite reflection on the importance of preventing gender-based violence and raising awareness about what harmful that violence is, especially against girls, adolescents, and women.

The participants had to record a 60-second video interpreting a song of their own authorship, which had to include at least 6 words from a group of 25 published on the website hablemosdefrente.org.

UNICEF Venezuela received 43 videos from 10 states of the country, including the Capital District, Miranda, Monagas, La Guaira, and Táchira, among others.

The jury selected 9 finalists based on the content and originality of the theme, which gave a clear message against gender violence and the proper fusion of the rap music genre with the theme of the contest. Rhythm and diction were also elements considered by the jury.
