Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and running water and/or clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitiser. Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitiser kills viruses, including Coronavirus (COVID-19) that may be on your hands.

Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

WHEN DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS?

Wash your hands with soap and running water or using an alcohol based hand sanitiser :

  • After coughing or sneezing
  • When caring for the sick
  • Before preparing, serving and/or eating food and after eating food
  • After using the toilet/latrine
  • When your hands are visibly dirty
  • After handing animals or animal waste”
