About

The National Youth Statement of Turkmenistan sets out the climate priorities of the country’s young people. It was developed between June and August 2026 through consultations with youth delegates, students and eco-activists from all velayats, held partly during the UNICEF Youth Climate Summer School, and partly with the support of the OSCE and the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development (SIC ICSD). The statement is a contribution to the Global Youth Statement (GYS), which carries youth demands into UNFCCC negotiations. It responds to the climate risks Turkmenistan feels most sharply: acute water scarcity, desertification and rising temperatures, which hit youth and vulnerable communities hardest. The statement makes five priority calls to Parties: regional water diplomacy, a formal youth role in decision-making and negotiations, local climate finance and disaster preparedness, interdisciplinary higher education in climate science, and protection of cultural heritage and vulnerable groups. Together, these ask for young people to move from observers to active partners in building Turkmenistan’s climate resilience.
