UNICEF, Dell Technologies, and Kilis Municipality collaborate to foster a bright future for young people
KILIS, 27 October 2023 — Today, UNICEF and Kilis Municipality have launched the Meşetlik Textile and Design Centre, a transformative initiative empowering youth in collaboration with Dell Technologies, a member of UNICEF's Business Advisory Board.
Since May 2017, UNICEF and Kilis Municipality have worked to empower and educate Syrian and Turkish children, by providing child protection and skills development programs for the most vulnerable. In 2022 and 2023, these initiatives reached over 30,000 children and caregivers, promoting social cohesion within the province.
The Meşetlik Textile and Design Centre, located within a beautifully renovated historical building, represents an innovative opportunity for young people. With a special focus on computer-based textile and design training, this state-of-the-art facility offers free, certified courses in computer operations, fashion design, graphic design, accountancy, web design, and more, enhancing employability and social cohesion among the youth.
Paolo Marchi, the UNICEF Representative to Türkiye, emphasizes, "The Meşetlik Textile and Design Centre, a remarkable collaboration between UNICEF, Kilis Municipality, and Dell Technologies as a member of UNICEF's Business Advisory Board, is a great example of the pivotal role that the private sector can play in shaping the future of our young people. Such collaborations between UNICEF and partners from the public and private sectors are great examples of the results we can achieve when we come together to empower youth, bridge the gap between education and industry, and foster social progress. This center represents our commitment to creating a brighter future for youth in Kilis and beyond, exemplifying the transformative power of partnerships and the potential to create opportunities that will shape lives and provide a brighter tomorrow for the youth in Kilis."
Işıl Hasdemir, Dell Technologies General Manager Turkey and eCIS says “At Dell Technologies, we have always been a technology company that prioritizes Digital Inclusion. We aim to bring the benefits of technology to everyone by focusing on device access & connectivity as well as digital skills building & community support so that everyone can be fully integrated into today's digital society. With the opening of this center in Meşetlik, I believe that we are taking our digital inclusion mission one step further. Thanks to technology-enabled training programs for young people, their participation in the workforce will increase and their ties with the digital world will be strengthened.”
UNICEF recognizes the transformative power of private-sector partnerships and their pivotal role in empowering young individuals. The Meşetlik Centre is a unique example of such partnerships which will also leverage collaborations with universities and local industries, including Organized Industrial Zones (OIZs) and chambers of commerce. These collaborations may lead to internships, on-the-job learning, and employment opportunities for course graduates. The Meşetlik Textile and Design Centre is set to reach up to 1,000 students annually, contributing to the creation of pathways for a prosperous future for young people across the country.
