Law on the Protection of Children and Youth in Danger
The "Law on the Protection of Children and Youth in Danger" is the first law in Timor Leste that focuses on protecting children from all forms of violence. It applies to all children and young people in Timor Leste who are at risk or in danger, in order to guarantee their safety, well-being and integral development.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, with the support from UNICEF, developed a child-friendly version of the law. This version explains important things such as what the law is about, who is considered a "child in danger", what the child protection system is, who is part of the child protection system, the key principles (values and priorities) that guide child protection and the steps and measures used to protect children.
