Our Representative: Valérie Taton
Valérie Taton is UNICEF’s Representative in Timor-Leste.
Mrs. Valérie Taton joined the UNICEF Timor Leste Country Office in August 2017. As UNICEF Representative, she is responsible for all the UNICEF activities under the Government of Timor Leste -UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation. These include planning, coordination, partnership, resource mobilization and implementation of programmes that contribute to children in the country enjoying their rights for survival, development, protection and participation.
Before joining UNICEF Timor-Leste, Mrs. Taton served as UNICEF’s Deputy Representative in Thailand, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Madagascar and Rwanda. She headed the child protection section in UNICEF Madagascar and served as child rights legal specialist in UNICEF Cambodia. She has also worked for UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights supporting the Committee on the Rights of the Child. Before joining the United Nations system, Mrs. Taton was a member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Liège, Belgium.
A national of Belgium, Mrs. Taton holds a Master’s Degree in Law, and has additional academic credentials in international law. She has a wealth of experience in the field of child rights and child protection, strategic programme planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
