Highlights
The school internet connectivity mapping report, financed by the European Union and technically supported by UNICEF, describes the current infrastructure connectivity landscape assessment in the education sector in the Republic of Tajikistan. The report also outlines proposed enabling environment strategies for the digitalization of schools in Tajikistan.
In academic year 2022/23, Tajikistan had 3,967 schools, 85 per cent of which were in rural districts, and only 16 per cent of which had internet access. Providing full connectivity for the education sector is a challenge that will require several different connectivity technologies and cost recovery models, along with support from the Government of Tajikistan, international development financial institutions (DFIs) and the private sector.
The government has extended an invitation to internet service providers (ISPs) and mobile network operators (MNOs) to participate in public-private partnership with the government and DFIs to support the increased provision of connectivity. To support this process, this report presents the results of the analysis of the current connectivity infrastructure landscape in the country, specifically in relation to the education sector, and identifies proposed pathways to full connectivity.
