Youth for Water and Climate Network Holds Annual Summit to Strengthen Youth Leadership on Climate Action in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 12 August, 2025. The Youth for Water and Climate (Y4WC) Network convened its Annual Summit in Dushanbe on August 11-12, bringing together youth leaders, government officials, and environmental experts to advance sustainable water management and climate resilience in Tajikistan.
The two-day event opened with remarks from the Committee of Youth Affairs and Sports, UNICEF Tajikistan, and the Y4WC Network leadership. Participants reviewed the 2024–2025 Annual Report and discussed the Youth for Water and Climate Action Plan 2025–2030.
Government representatives from the Committee for Environmental Protection and the Committee of Housing and Communal Services under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan shared national visions and priorities on climate action, water security, and youth empowerment. Youth delegates participated in regional breakout sessions to develop detailed implementation plans aligned with the Action Plan across Tajikistan’s regions.
"On behalf of UNICEF, I extend our deepest appreciation to the Government of Tajikistan for embracing youth as equal partners in steering the climate and water agenda, and for guiding this Network since its birth. To all the young women and men, volunteers, and community mobilizers: thank you. You devote your free time, passion, and voices to protect Tajikistan’s future.” Arthur van Diesen, UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan.
The summit also featured a masterclass on strategic planning and monitoring, and sessions on innovative topics such as Artificial Intelligence for youth empowerment and green skills for tomorrow, equipping participants with tools to lead impactful climate initiatives.
Leadership elections for the Y4WC Network Steering Committee were held, alongside networking with young Tajik students studying abroad, fostering collaboration across borders. The summit concluded with a call to action from government and network leaders, reaffirming the vital role of youth in shaping Tajikistan’s climate resilience and sustainable water future.
UNICEF remains committed to supporting the Youth for Water and Climate Network as part of its mission to amplify young voices and build climate-smart communities.
