Dushanbe, 10 April 2026 - Young people from across Tajikistan have shared compelling visual stories on digital connectivity, inclusion and opportunity through a photography exhibition marking the conclusion of the Giga Photography Mentorship Programme, implemented by UNICEF Tajikistan, in partnership with Giga and Ruyo Journal.

The initiative brought together 19 young people to strengthen their skills in visual storytelling, photography and digital communication, while encouraging critical reflection on the role of connectivity in advancing equitable access to information, education and opportunities.

The final exhibition presented a curated selection of photographs developed during the mentorship programme, highlighting young people’s perspectives on both the realities and the possibilities of digital inclusion in Tajikistan. Aligned with UNICEF’s commitment to leaving no one behind in the digital age, the Giga Photography Mentorship Programme provided participants with a safe and supportive learning environment to develop technical, creative and critical thinking skills.

I found out about this programme through my brother. For me, it was an great opportunity to learn something new and dive into the world of photography, images and history of photography. Through this programme I also met new people with different creative ideas, which was great!" Tomiris Bobieva, one of the participants of the programme.

Through guided mentorship sessions, young people explored themes including access to digital infrastructure, the digital divide, education, youth aspirations and the role of connectivity in building resilient and inclusive communities. The programme placed a strong emphasis on youth agency, empowering participants to use visual storytelling to reflect their lived experiences and to contribute their voices to discussions on equitable digital access.

The exhibition served as a platform for young people to present their work to partners, stakeholders and members of the public. Each photograph offered a unique perspective on how digital connectivity affects learning, social participation and future opportunities.

By centering youth perspectives, the exhibition reinforced the importance of meaningful youth participation in shaping national conversations on digital transformation and development. Expanding equitable access to digital connectivity is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring that every child and young person can learn, participate and thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Initiatives such as the Giga Photography Mentorship Programme contribute to this vision by equipping young people with the skills to critically engage with digital tools and to actively contribute to discussions on connectivity and inclusion. The programme reflects UNICEF’s broader approach to integrating digital literacy, creativity and youth empowerment as key drivers of sustainable development.
