Highlights
In 2021, UNICEF and its partners launched the Mother and Child Cash Transfer Plus (MCCT+) for the First 1,000 Days of Life Programme in Sudan, with financial support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ) via the German Development Bank (KFW). The MCCT+ is an integrated social protection programme that provides vulnerable pregnant women and lactating mothers with regular cash assistance, in combination with knowledge, skills and access to basic health, nutrition and protection services.
The MCCT+ operationalizes a recently adopted vision for Sudan’s social protection system: ‘a rights-based, inclusive, developmental, comprehensive, integrated and shock responsive social protection system’. Overall, MCCT+ is an approach for UNICEF to progressively realize universal social protection coverage, with a focus on the most vulnerable period of life.
