KHARTOUM 11 November 2020 – Comedian and YouTuber Maha Jaafar has been appointed as UNICEF Sudan’s newest National Ambassador. The appointment was made official in Khartoum during a signing ceremony with UNICEF Sudan Representative.

Named as one of the Ambassadors to YouTube Creators for Change, 26-year-old Sudanese social media personality Maha Jaafar is a comedian, YouTuber and dentist based in Dubai. As a fellow of YouTube’s Creators for Change programme, which is aimed at individuals who promote “empathy and understanding,” she is often credited to helping unite people and their cultures through her content.

Maha will use her unique cyber presence, with more than 1 million followers across her social media platforms to engage children and young people and empower them to speak out about the challenges they face and the change they want to create. On her YouTube video “A love letter to Sudan” she showcased Sudan’s multi-cultural and multi-ethnic sides, she had over 3.9 million views.

''It really is a dream come true to become a UNICEF National Ambassador," said Maha. "lt is a huge honor to be part of the UNICEF family. UNICEF has done tremendous work in Sudan and globally. I am looking forward to meeting as many children and young people as I can, to hear and share their stories. Comedy unites people and gives them hope. I will do my best to share my vision with children and youth to support them in fulfilling their dreams”.

In her role as a UNICEF Sudan National Ambassador, Maha will help raise awareness about children's rights. Including issues affecting children and youth, such as the right to education, the right to health and nutrition, the impact of poverty and discrimination, and the need for protection against violence, abuse and exploitation.

"We would like to extend a warm welcome to Maha Jaafar as she joins UNICEF as a National Ambassador. With her strong commitment to child rights – along with her talent and powerful presence – she will reach the hearts and minds of people not only in Sudan but beyond," said Abdullah Fadil, Representative of UNICEF Sudan.
