PORT SUDAN, 24.08.2025 – UNICEF today delivered humanitarian supplies, that will benefit more than 120,000 vulnerable people in Dilling and Kadugli. The arrival of these supplies marks a vital breakthrough for thousands of children and families cut off for more than nine months by conflict.
This is the first time since October 2024 that UNICEF, or any other humanitarian agency, has been able to reach Dilling with substantial supplies. The convoy is now continuing to Kadugli, an area where children’s needs have reached catastrophic levels.
South Kordofan is home to more than 63,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, including over 10,000 with severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form. The convoy carried 6,300 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), enough to cover the needs of targeted localities for more than six months. It also included water and sanitation supplies including pumps and generators to ensure the availability of clean water, as well as basic education and health supplies. These supplies will support health facilities, schools, and communities struggling to cope with the prolonged crisis in a state where more than 70 per cent of WASH facilities are damaged and urgently need repair.
“This convoy is a lifeline for children in South Kordofan who have endured hunger, fear, and uncertainty for far too long,” said Sheldon Yett, UNICEF Representative for Sudan. “It shows that with humanitarian access; we can deliver hope and tangible relief to children who desperately need it. But one convoy is not enough. Without sustained humanitarian access, many children will simply not make it.”
For months, intensified fighting and siege conditions have left families without access to food, medicine, and safe water. UNICEF calls on the government and all parties to the conflict to guarantee safe, sustained, and unconditional humanitarian access to reach every child in South Kordofan and across Sudan.
