Supporting Children Formerly Associated with Armed Forces and Groups
A practical guide to the socio-economic reintegration of girls formerly associated in South Sudan
The guide is made up of strategies and activities to improve reintegration assistance to girls in South Sudan. It is based on research conducted by Child Soldiers International and UNICEF in 2018 to better understand the needs of girls during reintegration.
Children Associated with Armed Forces and Groups (CAAFAG) girls were found to be particularly vulnerable as the fear of stigmatization and the lack of support meeting their specific needs leads them to avoid being identified for release and instead return to the community without adequate rehabilitation and reintegration support.
To address this, the guide was developed based mainly on the girls’ experiences and suggestions and compiles tried-and-tested interventions shared by South Sudan-based DDR and child protection/ GBV actors’ experts.
