Three years ago, the app "Bebbo – Your Partner in Parenthood" was born. Starting as a Serbian prototype of the phone counselling service "HaloBeba", it has evolved into a regional app that has won the hearts of over 1.4 million parents and caregivers across 15 countries in Europe and Central Asia.
This digital public good, recognized by the Digital Public Good Alliance, has also become part of the prestigious HundrED Global Collection of Innovations to Watch in 2025, as one of the 100 global innovations with proven impact and potential to scale.
Bebbo is the first parenting app to have its own Global Parents' Council, which monitors how effectively it enhances parenting skills and guides the app's future development.
As many as 80% of surveyed parents in Serbia agree that Bebbo helps them better support their child's development and gain more confidence. A large majority of parents (90%) say they are satisfied or very satisfied with the app. Ivana, a mother from Serbia, highlighted in an interview with Bebbo that "the biggest advantage of Bebbo is that it is a one-stop place for trustworthy information, so it saves you a lot of time and ambiguity of going through different, and often conflicting sources of information".
The past year brought:
- Over 200 new articles (on topics like preterm birth, pregnancy, etc.)
- A simplified interface with a category search option
- A keyword search option
- An option to consult content without creating a child profile
Among the most popular articles are those on child development, vaccination, and nutrition, as well as tips for play.
GitHub, a prominent supporter of open-source solutions, has collaborated with UNICEF to bolster the evolution of Bebbo. If you are a passionate open-source developer, you can access the app’s source code repositories and start contributing through the CMS platform or mobile platforms now.
Bebbo is preparing for its new version 2.0, which will enable a higher level of user engagement, especially among fathers. Part of the vision includes the introduction of a virtual assistant that will simplify the navigation experience and provide the right guidance at the right moment. In response to parents' requests, there are also plans to introduce a special module for the pregnancy period.
Not only that digital technology, in synergy with expertise in early childhood development, can help strengthen parents' capacities, but it can also create a better environment for children!

The Bebbo app was created as a result of collaboration between UNICEF in Serbia, the Belgrade City Institute of Public Health, and the company Nordeus, which funded and provided technical support for the development of the Serbian prototype. The app's regional expansion is supported by the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and international donors, including the LEGO Foundation.
