Boosting vaccination against Covid-19 in Senegal

A delegation from the Global partnership for COVID‑19 Vaccine Country-Readiness and Delivery, led by its Global Lead Coordinator, Mr. Ted Chaiban, paid a visit to Senegal from May 9 to 11.
The mission aimed to take stock of the progress in the roll-out of Senegal’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, and how the Global Partnership can help the country reach its vaccination coverage target. Read more
The mission was marked by working sessions with representatives of the Government, development partners, civil society, religious leaders and community organizations, frontline health workers and the community itself.
Working session with community actors to explore how to increase the demand for vaccination against Covid-19 in Senegal.
We have been impressed by the fact that community agents that exist in Senegal - such as the Badienu Gox are available, and that religious leaders are ready to support the acceleration phase
The delegation also visited a vaccination center and the warehouse of the Expanded Program of Immunization to see firsthand the vaccination operations in the country and better understand barriers to vaccination demand.
Development partners have also reaffirmed their commitment to support technically and financially the Government’s plan.
The Government has developed an acceleration plan that focuses on vaccination of high-risk groups including the elderly, people with co-morbidities and front-line health workers.
The vaccination acceleration phase in Senegal will rely on strong community mobilization, strengthening community dialogue and organized networks, with an approach centered on districts and regions. Read more
