DAKAR (Senegal), 9th May 2022 – A delegation from the Global partnership for COVID‑19 Vaccine Country-Readiness and Delivery, led by its Global Lead Coordinator, Mr. Ted Chaiban, will be in Senegal from May 9 to 11.

The delegation will discuss with Senegal highest authorities on the preparation of the upcoming World Summit on the Covid-19 pandemic convened by His Excellency Joe Biden, President of the United States and of which his Excellency, Mr Macky Sall, President of Senegal is one of the co-presidents.

It also aims to take stock of the progress in the roll-out of Senegal’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, and how the Global Partnership can help the country reach its vaccination coverage target.

Mr. Chaiban will hold a series of meetings with government officials, development partners as well as COVAX partners, including WHO, GAVI and UNICEF.

Mr. Chaiban will visit a vaccination site and the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) depot to allow him to get a first-hand perspective on the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines in the country.

The Global partnership for COVID‑19 Vaccine Country-Readiness and Delivery aims to ensure an effective global response to the pandemic, by supporting the identification, coordination and implementation of solutions in countries with low vaccination coverage. It coordinates inter-agency efforts to forecast vaccine needs, as well as provide financial and technical assistance to overcome bottlenecks in country-level implementation.

On 17th February 2022, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Ted Chaiban of Lebanon as Global Lead Coordinator for COVID‑19 Vaccine Country-Readiness and Delivery, at the level of Assistant Secretary-General, in UNICEF.
