Silvia Danailov has more than 20 years of professional experience operating at the intersection of international development, human rights and humanitarian action – with the United Nations, Government and INGO – both at HQ and field levels. Prior to joining the UNICEF Senegal team as the Representative, Silvia was the UNICEF Senior Adviser - Team Leader for Europe and Central in the UNICEF Public Partnerships Division in NY. In this capacity, she led a team responsible for the development of partnerships, advocacy and resource mobilization strategies and plans for European and Central Asian government partners.
Prior to this position, Silvia was the chief of the UNICEF humanitarian field support team within the Office of Emergencies, coordinating the UNICEF HQ’s assistance provided to regional and country offices responding to protection and humanitarian crises.
She has served UNICEF in various capacities, including her tenure in Haiti as Senior Recovery Advisor post Haiti earthquake, in Lao PDR as UNICEF Deputy Representative, in the Democratic Republic of Congo as Chief of the Emergency/Transition team, and in both Somalia and Myanmar in charge of the child protection programmes.
Prior to joining UNICEF, Silvia worked as a human rights expert for the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as for various NGOs and academia in both the former Yugoslavia and Switzerland.
A national of Switzerland and Serbia, Silvia holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. She is the mother of two young children.
