Highlights

On June 2-5, 2024, the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) and the Center for Integration Science (CIS) at Brigham & Women’s Hospital co-convened a three-day workshop entitled “Strategies to Address Severe Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases in Childhood, Adolescents and Young Adults – A Childhood NCD Learning Workshop” in Kathmandu, Nepal. This first-of-a-kind “Childhood NCD” workshop convened 60 child health and NCD policymakers, implementers, professional societies, technical and development partners from 8 countries in South Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri-Lanka. The aim of the workshop was for participants to share experiences and discuss challenges, opportunities, and strategies to address severe childhood-onset conditions, affecting children, adolescents, and young adults in the South Asia region, particularly those from populations suffering from high levels of poverty or with limited access to health care services, and timely prevention of NCDs that pose a risk later in life.
