Highlights
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has made significant strides in formulating robust policies and strategies to enhance its population’s nutritional well-being. Despite these efforts, the nation faces significant challenges in achieving its 2030 nutrition targets. While global indicators for breastfeeding are promising, PNG continues to grapple with alarming rates of childhood stunting, wasting, and anaemia. Limited access to basic health services compounds these issues, primarily due to a severe shortage of healthcare professionals, a limited number of health facilities, and an extremely challenging topography that hinders access to health care for many rural communities. In this complex scenario, community service providers present a unique opportunity for the delivery of essential nutrition services.
