Humanitarian situation report: Super Typhoon Uwan and recent emergencies
As of 10 November 2025
Highlights
- Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong) brought catastrophic winds, torrential rainfall, storm surges and heavy floods across large portions of the Philippines between 8 to 10 November. It is the 21st typhoon to hit the country in 2025.
- Several provinces in Luzon, including Catanduanes (Region V), Aurora (Region III) and Isabela (Region II), are among the areas that bore the brunt of the typhoon.
- Just days before Uwan hit the Philippines, Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) struck the central and southern parts of the country. Some of the areas affected were still reeling from the effects of typhoons Nando (Ragasa) and Opong (Bualoi), which hit in late September, and powerful earthquakes in Bogo City, Cebu in the Visayas region and Davao Oriental in Mindanao.
- UNICEF is monitoring the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan and has activated communication and coordination channels at national and sub-national levels. In close coordination with the Government-led humanitarian clusters, UNICEF is preparing a multisectoral response plan to support national efforts to address the compounded impact of Super Typhoon Uwan and Typhoon Tino, along with other recent emergencies in the country.
- From October, UNICEF has deployed substantial emergency supplies in support of up to 75,000 people affected by multiple typhoons, floods and major earthquakes.
