Situation Analysis of Children and Adolescents in Nigeria, 2024
A Report
Highlights
This updated Situation Analysis (SitAn) of Children and Adolescents in Nigeria was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the relevant federal and state institutions and with technical support from the United Nations Children’s Fund. The objective was to provide up-to-date information on the situation of our children and to shape the human capital agenda in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The analysis provides a much-needed picture of the gaps and challenges in fulfilling children’s rights. The report will help track the progress of the Transformative Agenda of the current administration as encapsulated in the National Development Plan for 2021–2025 and Nigeria Agenda 2050, as well as in other relevant policies and strategies to enhance human capital development in Nigeria. This SitAn update was designed to encourage policy dialogue, partnerships and interventions that will improve the lives of Nigeria’s children and families. The data and analysis of the current state of child rights and obstacles to their realization represent key inputs for programming by government institutions seeking to monitor and remove inequities and child deprivations. This report is a wake-up call to action. Children and adolescents make up almost half of our population. Their welfare, development and future are intertwined with that of our nation.Publication date
