Out-of-school children in Yemen

The Yemen Country Out-of-School Children Study conducted in 2014, showed that Yemen was among the countries with the lowest gross enrollment ratio, despite remarkable increase in coverage and enrolment in the last 30 years. In Yemen, girls, children in rural areas, poor children and children with uneducated parents were identified as those at particular risk of being excluded from school.

The report argued that among the major barriers that hinder children from school access, were child labour, destroyed school facilities due to conflict, disability, poverty, low quality of education and high population growth that made it difficult to absorb increases in new students.
