Iraq’s 2014 Out-of-School Children Report revealed the tremendous effect of conflict on Iraq’s education system, which was once among the best in the region. The Study argued that among key barriers to access to education were lack of awareness of the importance of education, poverty and living conditions, popular traditions regarding the role of women and the acceptance of girls’ early marriage, and lack of facilities and well-trained teachers.
