The Algeria Country Out-of-School Children Study was conducted in 2014. The study showed that in the decade leading to the time of the report, investments in education led to an increase in enrolment, a decrease in disparity and rising levels of government funding for education, yet far too many children drop out of lower secondary education. The report argued that children with disabilities, children in rural areas and with poor families, particularly girls are more likely to be excluded from education in Algeria.

The report showed that among the key barriers to access to education in Algeria, were inadequate education infrastructure, limited early childhood education policies and opportunities, weak financial and resource management, low quality of education, and lack of special education opportunities for children with disabilities.
