The 2014 MENA Out-of-School children regional study was carried out to understand better the complex challenges facing children and their families in accessing education in countries of the region, including those affected by conflict. The report aims to identify who and where the out-of-school children are, but also to unpack the complex challenges, and puts forth recommendations to enhance policies that address these barriers.

The report is produced under the framework of the Global Out-of-School Children Initiative launched in 2010 by UNICEF, together with UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) to identify the out-of-school children and factors that hinder children from being at school and from learning.
