11 July - The Day of "Ambassador for a Day" Winners

On 10 and 11 July, the UK Embassy in Antananarivo, along with five partners – the embassies of the United States, Germany, Japan, as well as the EU and UNICEF delegation – is organising a two-day event series for the winners of the second edition of the "Ambassador of a Day - Madagascar 2024" competition.

The Ambassador for a Day is a contest aimed at encouraging young girls to become leaders and advocates for change, so as to empower women and girls. The initiative also aims to demystify the work of ambassadors and embassies and encourage girls to actively engage on issues affecting their communities, their country and the world.

The first day on 10 July was dedicated to leadership training for the 18 selected girls. On 11 July, each of the six winners will spent a day shadowing an ambassador, experiencing the day life of a high-ranking leader. The day will end with a reception hosted by the British ambassador for the six “ambassadors for a day” with women leaders from different sectors. 

The six winners are:

1.  Elysa Sederanirina Soanomeny, 15, from Fianarantsoa (British Embassy).

2.  Tan Stacy Cassidie Amboaraiterantsoa, 15, from Antananarivo (Embassy of Japan).

3.  Lovatiana Naval Rakotorisoa, 17, from Antananarivo (German Embassy).

4.  Irintsoa Tsiky Rakotobe, 15, from Antananarivo (U.S. Embassy).

5.  Christina Dewa Andrianarivony, 16, from Antananarivo (UNICEF Madagascar).

6.  Sahnie Luicia Joelinah Ravololoniananalala, 18, also from Antananarivo (EU Madagascar).

Each winner will accompany an ambassador for a series of activities, visits and meetings throughout the day. Some of the winners, on 11 July, will attend the regional launch of UNFPA’s flagship state of world population 2024 report for the Indian Ocean islands: Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius and the Seychelles. Some of them will also participate in internal meetings on the implementation of the humanitarian and development programme in Madagascar.
