Emotions are the natural way in which we react to what happens around us. We all have emotions, and it is important not to repress them or feel ashamed of them. We need to remember this in our families. Emotions are our human superpower!

Emotions are like ocean waves!

They come and go throughout the day. Some are less intense and pass quickly, others are more intense, linger and turn into moods. There are as many ways to feel emotions as there are human beings in the world. We should not label our emotions because they are neither good nor bad. All emotions are necessary!

Parents must have the tools to recognize emotions in their children and to understand certain signs, such as those caused by stress. Find out more here.

As children and adolescents grow and reach adulthood, their bodies and brains go through major changes, and it is natural for new or more intense emotions to come and go.

My Emotions are My Compass for Navigating the World!

Fear shows us that we might be in danger and need to be careful. Fear can also show us that something like an exam or a meeting with friends could go wrong. Fear keeps us alert to danger. Taking precautions and talking to someone we trust about what we fear can help us.

Frustration allows us to recognize when things do not go the way we want and reminds us that learning to solve problems and asking for help when we need it are ways to find a solution.

Sadness is the reaction we may have when something moves us, such as a fight, the loss of a loved one or hearing a song that takes us back to another place or time. We can embrace sadness as just another emotion, always remembering that it is a reaction and it will pass, and that if it does not, we can ask for help.

Joy shows me that sharing my thoughts and feelings with friends and parents, drawing, singing, writing or playing sports all make me feel good and that I should do these more often..

Let’s learn to manage our emotions: they are how we express ourselves!

Bottling up our emotions will not help us receive support or feel better.

There are many ways to feel and express what is happening to us. We could talk to friends, family or people close to us. We could listen to music, dance, write, laugh or cry. We suggest you find your favourite way to express yourself and to do so freely!

Here are some examples of what we like to do:
