As part of a partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and with the aim of ensuring the availability of adequate quantities and quality of vaccines for improved immunization at national and sub-national levels, UNICEF has procured, in 2022, high-quality standard vaccine cold chain equipment including 1842 vaccine refrigerators, 620 vaccine carriers, 220 cold boxes, and 21 generators, as well as standard facilities to equip 19 vaccine walk-in cold rooms.
Considering the existing need for a strong cold chain system to preserve and maintain the potency of vaccines nationwide, these commodities will help ensure that vaccines reach children and protect them adequately.
In addition, UNICEF works closely with governments to equip parents and communities with the required knowledge on the benefits of immunization and reinforce government efforts to monitor public attitudes and immunization uptake and to tackle problems as quickly as possible.
