Inoussa Kabore is the new UNICEF Representative to Guinea-Bissau

BISSAU, 16 September 2024 – Inoussa Kabore, MD, MPH, a natural of Burkina Faso, is the new Representative of the United Nations Fund (UNICEF) to Guinea-Bissau. He presented his letter of accreditation today to His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, Dr Carlos Pinto Pereira.

With more than 20 years of experience in development and humanitarian programmes in South Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia and the United States, Dr. Kabore is an expert in the fields of Public Health; Programme Planning; Monitoring, Evaluation and Research; and Programme Management.  Since 2012, Dr. Kabore has been working at UNICEF to guarantee the rights of every child and adolescent.

Before being appointed UNICEF Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Dr. Kabore was the Deputy Representative (Programmes) of UNICEF in Pakistan since July 2021. He led and oversaw the overall UNICEF programmes and provided strategic guidance for their implementation, coordinating with the Government, UN sister agencies and partner organizations, including members of the private sector and civil society.

Prior to this role, Dr. Kabore served as the Regional Chief of Programme and Planning for UNICEF in South Asia, covering eight countries. He previously served as Regional Chief of Evaluation and Research for UNICEF in the West and Central Africa Region (WCAR), overseeing evaluation and research functions in 24 countries; this included supporting the design of six new country programmes, and United Nations Cooperation Frameworks. He also served as OIC Deputy Representative Programme for UNICEF in Afghanistan in 2021.

Before his tenure with UNICEF, Dr. Kabore led USAID programmes in Burkina Faso, including the Community Health Lab (CHL) and the Women and Infant Nutrition Support (WINS) programme. He served as Country Director for the Population Council in Burkina Faso for eight years and as Director of Evaluation, Surveillance and Epidemiologic Research (ESR) with FHI360 in Washington for 12 years, leading global programmes and supporting 50 countries. He is the author and co-author of several reports and publications in high impact journals.

Dr. Kabore received his medical degree in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and his Master of Public Health (MPH) in International Health and Development Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation from Tulane University Medical School and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He is a qualified Master Trainer on Right Results-Based Management (RRBM), Programme Planning Processes (PPP) and Business for Results (B4R). He is fluent in both French and English. He also started learning Portuguese.
