ATHENS 2 DECEMBER  2021: On the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities, tomorrow, December 3, the UNICEF Office in Greece calls for equal access to education for children with disabilities, through a communication campaign focused on promoting inclusive schools and providing equal opportunities to all children regardless of circumstances.

According to the latest report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), it is estimated that more than 240 million children worldwide belong to the group of people with disabilities. This estimate is the highest in recent decades, with indicators verifying that children with disabilities are among the most excluded population groups worldwide and  dramatically lacking access to education, health and protection.

Under the tagline "Accessible schools, for every child", the campaign aims to raise public awareness of issues related to equal access of children to school, without exception, focusing on the fact that every child has the same right to education, school, play, sport and the society, regardless of their abilities or nationality.

The campaign's main film has been shared on UNICEF Greece social media channels and its promotion will continue in the coming months through television and radio.

The film's protagonist is 10-year-old Panagiotakis, who talks to the UNICEF camera about his daily life and the challenges he faces as a person with a disability in our country, on the occasion of the International Day of People with Disabilities.

The campaign is a joint initiative of UNICEF Greece in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Religions, with funding from the European Union, in the framework of the implementation of the #EUChildGuarantee pilot program.
