Safer Internet Day promotes a safer and more secure online environment for all users, with a special focus on protecting young people. It also emphasizes the importance of digital literacy, encouraging users to navigate the internet safely and responsibly.

The digital world offers incredible opportunities for learning, connecting, and exploring. However, it's crucial to navigate this space with awareness and caution. Here are some essential tips to help you stay safe online:

  • The "THINK" Rule: Before posting anything online, ask yourself: Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind?
  • The "SMART" Online Approach: – stay Safe, don’t Meet strangers online, don’t Accept friend requests online quickly, not everything online is Reliable and Tell a trusted person or an adult.
  • Meet strangers only in person after careful consideration and with a trusted adult present.
  • Accept friend requests from known individuals.
  • Recognize that not everything online is reliable.
  • Tell a trusted adult or friend about any concerning online experiences.
  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on all online accounts.
  • Practice the two words online: be Kind and Careful.
  • Develop strong digital literacy skills and share this knowledge with others.
  • Avoid sharing personal information online.
  • Use unique and strong passwords for each online account.
  • Verify information from multiple sources before engaging with it.
  • Report any abusive online content to the relevant authorities (e.g., the Child Sexual Abuse [CSA] hotline at 292 via call or text).
