Every child depends on reliable supply chains. From vaccines and essential medicines to nutrition commodities, WASH supplies and education materials, timely and quality supplies are critical to saving lives and delivering results for children. Guided by UNICEF’s Supply Strategy and the European Union’s priorities on humanitarian assistance, health security, resilience and Global Gateway, UNICEF and the EU work together to ensure that life‑saving supplies reach children -especially in fragile, crisis‑affected and hard‑to‑reach settings.

What UNICEF and the EU deliver together

Rapid, life‑saving delivery in emergencies

EU humanitarian financing enables UNICEF to deliver critical supplies at speed and scale in emergencies caused by conflict, displacement, epidemics and climate shocks. A flagship example is the EU–UNICEF humanitarian stockpile hosted at UNICEF’s Supply Division in Copenhagen (Denmark), which strengthens global preparedness and enables rapid deployment of life‑saving supplies worldwide.

Ensuring access to essential health and nutrition commodities

EU‑funded programmes support the procurement and delivery of vaccines, medicines, nutrition supplies and therapeutic foods, ensuring continuity of essential services. In countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Malawi and Sudan, EU support strengthens supply chains for nutrition and health programmes, often integrated with primary health care and implemented jointly with WHO.

Strengthening national supply systems

Beyond emergency delivery, UNICEF and the EU invest in long‑term supply chain strengthening, helping governments improve forecasting, procurement, warehousing and last‑mile delivery. In Nigeria, EU‑supported initiatives contribute to local manufacturing and sustainable supply of health, immunisation and nutrition commodities, reducing dependency and improving resilience.

Integrated supply for multisectoral programmes

EU‑funded UNICEF programmes support integrated supply solutions across sectors—health, nutrition, WASH, education and child protection. This ensures that schools receive learning materials, health facilities have essential equipment, and communities have WASH supplies -maximizing the impact of EU investments across programmes.

Innovation, resilience and preparedness

The UNICEF-EU partnership supports innovation in logistics, including digital supply systems, preparedness planning and shock‑responsive supply chains, enabling faster and more accountable delivery in both humanitarian and development contexts.
