Together, working for children

UNICEF has been present in Ethiopia for 65 years and its history is closely tied to Ethiopia’s gradual transformation into a modern economy with strong aspirations for middle income status by 2025. Through its programme of cooperation in the country, UNICEF works to support national efforts to ensure the realization of the rights of children and women through improved child survival, development and protection.

UNICEF can’t do this work alone. Over the past six decades UNICEF has established strong relations with the Government of Ethiopia, bi-laterals, donors, development partners and civil society, and will continue to work through strong partners in country to meet its goals for children. By working together, we can create real and lasting change for children. 

Collaboration with UN agencies greatly contributed towards the results achieved, particularly with UNOCHA on emergency response, with UNFPA on strengthening child protection systems, with World Bank and WHO on operationalizing the Nurturing Care Framework, with WFP and FAO on implementing nutrition interventions, and with UNESCO on improving the quality of education in the country.

INGOs, CSOs, Universities, and research institutions have been crucial partners during the development and emergency responses in 2018.  UNICEF continued to lead, co-lead or act as secretariat for the following emergency clusters and sector working groups and forums in 2018: Health, Population and Nutrition Donor Group; Nutrition Strategic Advisory Group; Nutrition Development Partners Forum; WASH Cluster; WASH Cluster Strategic Advisory Group; OneWASH Programme; Education Cluster; Education Sector Working Group; Child Protection GBV Sub-cluster; and the Development Assistance Group.
