Fit for purpose

Annual report 2018

UNICEF is known for its highly committed and skilled staff which is its greatest asset.

UNICEF’s objectives can only be made through a fully competent and motivated workforce.

After a thorough mid-term review process, UNICEF strategically abolished select posts and recruited over 42 staff to new posts. Staff were supported through various information sessions, career development support, preparation support for the recruitment process, and one-on-one advisement to staff on abolished posts.

UNICEF invested in several professional development opportunities for staff, including performance management workshops and career planning support. Moreover, in 2018 the mentorship programme was launched targeting female staff in addition to the female talent initiative programme.

UNICEF also proactively engaged in the recruitment reform, in which a number of new initiatives were adapted, including blended selection processes, female talent promotion and proactive promotion of internal staff through lateral moves and internal recruitment processes. UNICEF continues to work towards improving gender parity through targeted outreach, internal recruitments and internship programmes.

UNICEF successfully piloted the Mobile Warehouse and Inventory Management project, aimed at increasing visibility, data accuracy, and traceability of programme supplies, as well as linking to the supply chain at a later stage and simplifying end-user monitoring.

Preparations are ongoing in implementing the Enterprise Content Management system, allowing for improved knowledge management for all staff.

Ethiopia has 369 full time staff.

UNICEF Ethiopia staff released 70 balloons to commemorate UNICEF's global 70 years anniversary and made a wish that the coming years ahead will bring better results for every child everywhere. UNICEF Ethiopia2016Demissew Bizuwork
