Strategy for Climate-Resilient Education Systems in Eastern and Southern Africa
Supporting children’s education amidst climate crises
Highlights
The Eastern and Southern Africa region is facing a climate emergency that increasingly threatens children’s right to education. The rising frequency and intensity of climate-related hazards, such as floods, droughts, cyclones and extreme heat, have already disrupted schooling across at least 14 countries between 2022 and 2024.
This Strategy for Climate-Resilient Education Systems provides a bold response, positioning climate action within and through education as a central pillar for achieving climate adaptation and continuity of learning for children and young people across the region.
