Highlights

The job of ending AIDS among children and adolescents in Eastern and Southern Africa is not done. In 2023, 42,000 children (0-14 years) lost their lives to AIDS and 120,000 adolescent girls and young women (15-24 years), including young mothers, newly acquired HIV in this region. Yet, huge strides in programming coupled with new evidence and tools provide a clear path forward. This Regional Snapshot, produced for World AIDS Day 2024, includes all the latest HIV statistics along with the evidence-based strategies that will get us to our goals.
