Statement by UNICEF Regional Director Eastern and Southern Africa Etleva Kadilli, on the deaths of four children following an explosion in Dikhil, Djibouti

Djibouti, 6 March 2026 – “UNICEF is deeply saddened by the loss of four children’s lives following an explosion in the Dikhil region in Djibouti.  

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the children and to the communities affected by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are also with the children who sustained injuries and we wish them a full and swift recovery. 

“UNICEF continues to collaborate with the Government of Djibouti to ensure that every child survives and thrives in a healthy and safe environment.”
