About

UNICEF’s Regional Polio Advocacy Brief – Zeroing In on Zero – is a rallying call to close the final gaps in polio eradication across Eastern and Southern Africa. Despite major strides, the region remains at risk of outbreaks, especially in the Horn of Africa. This Brief outlines urgent, evidence-based actions to protect every child: revitalizing primary health care, scaling up immunization, reaching zero-dose children, and building vaccine confidence through community engagement. It also highlights the voices of nearly 50,000 youth who see polio as a pressing issue and demand better health services.

With declining global health aid, national leadership and sustainable financing are more critical than ever. Designed for policymakers, partners, and advocates, the Brief is a tool to inspire bold action, foster cross-border collaboration, and ensure no child is left behind.
